If yesterday had not visited, today would be a stranger,
Holding us captive for eternity.
Joy would lack meaning,
We would be lost in the abyss.
—
If yesterday had not visited, we would celebrate when the King farts,
Pour our senses in a cup, And drink with wild cheers to start.
But when we, too, let out a fart,
The King would claim our heads.
—
If yesterday had not visited, we would hunt our friends,
Abandon our lands to foes,
And futilely eat soup with a fork in the wastelands.
—
If yesterday had not visited, we would see enemies in our reflection,
Sons would rule their fathers,
And women would be dubbed husbands.
The moon would reign in the day,
Causing the sun to fall into deep sleep..
—
If yesterday had not visited, we would snuff out the flame of the lightbearer,
Embracing the darkness and its void,
Perhaps out of fear of facing our nakedness
Or feeling too ashamed to confront it.
—
If yesterday had not visited, we would miss its story
Of the grand feast that death has arranged for us today.
We would gorge ourselves on tomorrow,
Carrying bloated stomachs to our graves.
—
If yesterday had not visited, we would live and die in ignorance,
Never knowing why.
Like today, tomorrow would be another stranger
That comes to take all we have.
